Dr. Bayram completed a BA in Islamic Theology (2005) at Ataturk University, Erzurum, in Turkey. After graduation, he worked as a mosque-imam under the Directorate of Turkish Religious Affairs, for about 14 months. In 2007, for further research, he went to the UK winning formal scholarship from the Ministry of National Education of Turkey.

Dr. Bayram’s research to date has been focused on Islamic movements and sects. He holds a MA in Religion and Public Life, from the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Leeds, in 2008. At the same university, he carried on his studies and completed a PhD in the School of Philosophy, Religion and the History of Science. In his PhD, he utilised ethnographic research methods to investigate Sunni Muslim’s religious life, including religious beliefs and practices, religious authority, interactions or conflicts among Muslim community. His PhD thesis is titled Sunni Muslim Religiosity in the UK Muslim Diaspora: Mosques in Leeds Compared. Currently, he works as a lecturer at the Faculty of Theology, Istanbul University, Turkey.
